Description:
The Master of Applied Science provides an opportunity for graduates to develop high level investigative skills by carrying out research on problems in their field of expertise. For candidates in employment, this could involve studies of "real world" problems in the candidate's work place, provided adequate supervision arrangements can be
negotiated. This course is available in the Departments of Applied Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics and Computing. The course is to be completed by research and thesis only, however it may be appropriate for some students to undertake studies in those units which will provide a foundation for their research project. These projects will generally be established after consultation with the relevant Head of Department and the Faculty of Applied Science Board of Studies.

Entrance qualifications: Candidates should have at least one of the following:
- honours degree from an Australian university
- pass degree plus a graduate diploma in a relevant field, both achieved with a higher level of academic performance
- pass degree from a recognised university at a high level of academic performance, and have at least one year's relevant work experience - pass degree in a relevant discipline, and have completed a
qualifying program of study at an appropriate standard.

Administrative information:
It is expected that the course will be completed within four years of external study. Candidates who enter with an honours degree or through a qualifying program may complete the degree in a shorter time.
